
Holi 2023: Effortlessly Remove Colour From Dry Skin With These Homemade Masks

Holi 2023 is on March 8, and we cannot keep calm. The festival of colour is here, and every household is bracing itself to play with gulal. The only problem is getting the colour out of your skin without looking like a swollen monkey.
Depending on the skin type, Holi colours react differently. However, without paying heed to our dermal layer, we all take a similar approach to get rid of the colour, scrubbing vigorously, which sometimes just worsens the situation.
Therefore, we spoke with Shahnaz Husain, a hair and beauty expert, to bring you homemade masks that would work wonders for dry skin. These solutions will help you get rid of Holi colours without causing any harm. However, we suggest you do a patch test of every DIY method before proceeding.
How Season Affects Dry Skin
Holi marks the beginning of the summer season in North India. During winter, dry skin is already prone to lose its moisture. Exposure to the sun, hot water and soaps can further leave the dermal layer feeling dry and patchy.
Moreover, Holi colours can strip off any remaining moisture. Hence, Husain suggests adding hydrating ingredients to the masks.

Milk & Olive Oil
In a container, mix two drops of olive oil (sesame oil or sunflower oil) in a tablespoon of cold milk. Both ingredients are extremely hydrating and can replenish skin from any damage caused by colours.
Dip a cotton pad in the mixture, and dab it gently on your face. After 10 minutes, wash your face with running water. You should use this mixture for two to three days. Make sure to store it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before using it.

Orange Juice & Honey
Orange juice is rich in vitamin C, and honey has hydration properties. In a tablespoon of orange juice, mix a teaspoon of honey. Using a cotton pad, apply the mask to the face.

Keep it for 20 minutes, and rinse it off with water. It will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. You can repeat this thrice a week to completely get rid of any colour residue. You can also use it during summer to achieve brighter and more hydrated skin.

Honey, Rose Water and Wheat Germ Oil
Take a bowl and add three tablespoons of honey and wheat germ oil and 30mL of rose water to it. Mix all the ingredients well into a smooth paste. You can also add 10mL each of rose water, glycerine and witch hazel.
When you blend them, these ingredients will form cream-like consistency. Take a gentle amount in your fingers and gently massage it on your face. After five or 10 minutes, you can wipe it off with a damp cotton pad. If you have some extra left, you can store it in a jar and keep it aside for further use.
